DSEI 2025: Cybersecurity's Central Role in the Future Force

DSEI 2025 at London’s ExCeL underscored the UK’s commitment to modernising defence not only through cutting-edge hardware, but by embedding cybersecurity and digital resilience at the core of future force development. With the overarching theme of “Preparing the Future Force”, the event emphasised how digital transformation, secure supply chains, and agile procurement are shaping tomorrow’s battlespace – and where cybersecurity plays an increasingly strategic role.

The newly launched Defence Industrial Strategy 2025 (“Making Defence an Engine for Growth”) was a timely backdrop, placing cyber capabilities, cryptographic sovereignty, and supply chain resilience high on the agenda. The strategy emphasises the need for trusted, sovereign capabilities in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, and secure digital infrastructure – the very foundations of cyber-resilient defence.

Throughout the exhibition and forums, there was clear momentum around developing a robust digital backbone to enable secure connectivity, cloud infrastructure, and data sharing across all domains. This undoubtedly brings with it significant opportunities for cybersecurity providers across the whole spectrum of cyber disciplines. Equally, as procurement shifts towards faster, more modular and open systems, firms that can embed security from the outset will almost certainly gain a competitive edge.

It was incredibly reassuring to see that cyber was not a siloed conversation. It was a theme that permeated through discussions about electronic warfare, AI decision-making, unmanned systems, and industrial base resilience. The launch of the Cyber & Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) at the show further reflects the UK’s move to operationalise cyber as a core domain in its own right, with both defensive and offensive capabilities.

For the cybersecurity sector, the message is clear: the intersection of digital innovation and national defence is now mission-critical. Whether it’s securing AI-enabled platforms, building trusted supply chains, or supporting a digitally skilled workforce, those of us in the cyber industry have a growing role to play – not only as suppliers, but as strategic partners in shaping the UK’s defence future.

As industry and government move forward from DSEI, the challenge will be ensuring security keeps pace with innovation. For cybersecurity providers ready to engage early, demonstrate resilience, and align with the strategy’s priorities, the door to long-term opportunity is wide open and here at Amethyst we’re thrilled to be part of that conversation. If you also want to be part of the conversation there are many ways in which Amethyst can support you to align your business objectives within defence priorities.
